Robert Miles @ Taj Lands End, Mumbai 11.24.07

Robert Miles?? i.e. Roberto Milano? i.e. Children, Fable, One and One?? LOL! Yes! Robert Miles in the flesh! The last album of his, Organik, was quite a freak show to those who were used to the poppy, dreamy songs from the first two albums, Dreamland and 23am. He also collaborated with tabla and percussionist, Trilok Gurtu for an effort titled Miles_Gurtu. But on Saturday Night, for the sake of Mumbai, let's all hope he plays more of Dreamland and 23am, huh?

Who: Robert Miles
Where: Seaside Lawn, Taj Lands End, Bandra
When: Saturday, November 24, 2007, 10pm onwards
How much: Invite only!

Yeah sorry about that. The gig is an after party of sorts for the 'PlayStation 3 Experience' cram-up with six areas and upto 50 PSs littered all over the place. The gaming thing is free for all, but the party will need you to flash a pass. So get cracking, get asking and get an invite! It's gonna be a button-mashing weekend, folks!

There was also a mention of DJ Whosane playing alongside Miles at the gig, but I don't give a shit about that guy.

Here is the flyer:

Matt Darey - Nocturnal 119 Incl. Freemasons Guest Mix

Another weekend and another episode of Nocturnal with Matt Darey. On the guest mix this week we have Freemasons.

The forums were not warming up too well last night for Nocturnal 119. It seems the audience did't take too kindly to the Top 40-ness of the guest mix, as well as dominant 'euro' feel of Matt's mix. I'll let you be the judge of that.

Update 11/19/2007: Fixed the guest mix download link (117->119) and the title (118-119). Sorry! I shouldn't post under the influence! :)

John '00' Fleming @ Poison, Mumbai 11.20.07

I'm not going for the big-ass Sunburn festival down in Goa, but the pre-release party here at Poison, Mumbai has something in store for me (and others who aren't going to Goa): John '00' Fleming! Backed by Pearl and Karan Third Eye, this should be an interesting Tuesday night to spend out.

I didn't enjoy the night when J00F played at Squeeze last year, but that's mostly because of the place. I almost always have a good time at Poison (other than Pete Gooding), so I'm in for this.

Low down...

Who: John '00' Fleming, Pearl, Karan Third Eye
Where: Poison, Mumbai
When: Tuesday, November 20th, 2007, 10pm onwards.
How much: Rs. 1,000 for couple / stag

Samim - Heater

This is the official video of Samim's chart-busting "Heater". I usually avoid most of the cheesy, commercial stuff, but Samim isn't exactly that. In any case, this track is fucking insane! Samim rocks!

Buy it! It's just worth every penny!

I got my Ubuntu 7.10 CDs!

You can request for free CDs of Ubuntu from their website. I requested mine just a few days before 7.10 was released and I just got my copy today! So what if I downloaded it on the day after it was released and installed it... having a nice, original, printed copy of Ubuntu with packaging is worth the wait! Besides, it comes with STICKERS!!

AutoSplitJoin - Intelligent Split File Joiner

If you have downloaded a large file (say, a movie) that was split using HJSplit or whatever into several smaller pieces so it could be put up on RapidShare, for example...

Some.Movie.2007.DVDRip.XViD-ADG.avi.001
Some.Movie.2007.DVDRip.XViD-ADG.avi.002
Some.Movie.2007.DVDRip.XViD-ADG.avi.003
...

...and so on, one of your options is to download HJJoin to rejoin them, but that's somehow a little too slow. I've always found the simple COPY /B method a lot faster, so I wrote this batch file called AutoSplitJoin to help you out with quickly and easily joining the splits.

It's very easy to use. All you have to do is go into the directory containing the split files and invoke the script with the name of the file without the split numbers (.001, .002 etc.) like this:

AutoSplitJoin Some.Movie.2007.DVDRip.XViD-ADG.avi

The script will automatically figure out how many splits the file has and join them all quickly!

It's almost been ten years since I last wrote a .BAT file to do the dirty work for me. This brought back a lot of sweet old 80x25 memories!

Download: AutoSplitJoin 1.0 (1k)
OS: Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista

Known limitations: Only one as of now, which is that it only checks upto 10 splits (.010) per file. If you have more than 10 splits, this script will need modification to get it to work. I capped it at 10 because most movie or other CD-sized downloads are split up into 10 or less parts these days.

For advanced users: if you have more than a couple of movies or games or whatever downloaded, you can add another layer of automation like this:

FOR %a in (Some.Movie.2007.DVDRip.XViD-ADG.avi Some.Shooting.Game.2007.PS2.PAL.DVDRip.rar Some.Music.Album.2007.FLAC.CDRip.rar) do AutoSplitJoin %a

Feedback, suggestions, criticism, leave all of that in the comments section!

Burnout Paradise Logo and DVD Cover

I saw the fabulous new "Welcome to Paradise City" trailer for the upcoming Burnout Paradise PS3/360 game and the only thing that really caught my eye was the very stylish new cover art shown at the end. I looked around for a high-res version of that, but couldn't find anything. All the so-called official DVD covers show the same thing as before: a detailed car crash against a mundane black background. Nahh. So I just took screenshots of the HD version of the trailer and made this:

Enjoy!

Also, here's a high-res capture of the beautiful new Burnout Paradise logo:

And as a bonus, here's a nice little 240x320 res wallpaper for your cellphonez:

The gates to Paradise City open January 22nd, 2008. Keep your tickets ready!

Om Shanti Om Rocks!

I remember telling a friend that I'd tell her how the movie was, even though I won't blog about it, and I did stop blogging movie mini-reviews (which I now do on Facebook/Flixster) a long time ago, but I enjoyed the movie so much, I just couldn't resist.

I also Twittered the entire movie watching experience (well, at least the start, the interval and the end) and I'm gonna say it again: Om Shanti Om totally rocks and Deepika Padukone is beyond bounds hot!

That's all I have to say. You must go and see the movie! Go!

Here are two more posters of Om Shanti Om:

Hyundai i10: A Nice 360-degree View

Here's a very nice 360-degree view of the new Hyundai i10 small car, codenamed the Pa.

No, it's not the next on my shopping list, but I *am* in the market for a new car to replace my ageing Zen. Will this be it? Should I stick to the Maruti brand? Or should I wait for the Honda Jazz?
